Perseverance (2022)

for trumpet ensemble and euphonium - 8.5 min

Over four movements, Perseverance tells the story of a rover landing on Mars, never to return. Using many of the possible textures and timbres of the trumpet ensemble, this piece demonstrates a wide variety of sounds, utilizing harmon mutes, straight mutes, flugelhorns, and euphonium (optional bass trumpet). Using these unique timbres, the piece is centered around a simple motif used in several different styles, keys, and time signatures in order to tell the story of its other-worldly adventure.

The premiere of Perseverance has awarded Aaron Reising with the Nancy B. and Nicholas J. Perrini Award for Outstanding Performance in Composition (2022).
