A sunrise, although existing only in a short period of time, has so many small moments within itself that are worth appreciating. The initial break of the horizon, the spectrum of colors illuminating the sky, and the final release of the sun from the horizon line.

Daybreak is a piece for concert band depicting as many moments of a sunrise as I could. The piece is warm in harmonic color and texture throughout and has many moments of tension and release. The piece begins and ends with a harmonic gesture symbolizing the beginning and end of this majestic event.
