Phase

for symphony orchestra - 7.5 min

I have titled this piece Phase during a time in life where things had seemed very unclear.

I have always enjoyed a compositional style of melody and harmony driven writing, but with this piece, I wanted to travel outside of that comfort zone to focus more on texture, timbre, and time. Although the tempo marking remains consistent through the entirety of this piece, meter and rhythm give the effects of bends within this steady tempo. Most of all, this piece is meant to resemble a phase of life where things exist in between clarity and blurriness, comfort and discomfort.

Comprising 105 measures, Phase was written in honor of the 105th anniversary of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
