Recitation
for solo piano - 6 min
I have written this piece for a greatly talented friend of mine, Sam Nassirharand.
Beginning in January 2024, I spent 5 months in Tallinn, Estonia studying at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. From the short days of winter to the long days of summer, I was grateful to experience a country outside of my own. Now, in 2025, my friend Sam is doing the same.
I have written this piece keeping in mind that although my experience was truly inspiring, there were many moments where I felt alone. Recitation begins with a single voice performing a twelve-tone row. The remainder of the piece unfolds from and manipulates this row in many ways and through many styles, showing personal growth and change.
