Upon first listen, I was truly inspired by Toru Takemtisu’s works entitled Signals from Heaven for antiphonal brass ensembles. In these pieces, the fanfares take on a new form while still serving their purpose as a call for attention. Written for a brass ensemble of 4 trumpets in C, 4 horns in F, 3 tenor trombones, bass trombone, 2 euphoniums, and tuba, Signals has been written in awe and admiration of the works of Takemitsu.
