It all starts with an idea, a spark of inspiration that fuels dreams and aspirations in one’s life. Although, in many cases, these dreams may never come into fruition. Written for solo flugelhorn, Trapped is a composition depicting this tragic, but plausible possibility. In the first half of the work, an idea is introduced, elaborated, and developed, as the flugelhorn dances around many of its technical capabilities. The second half of the piece is much more mournful, despite small glimpses of optimism. The dark and lyrical beauty of the flugelhorn is embraced as that tiny spark of hope fades away.
