Uneasy Dances

for brass quintet - 6 min

The dance suite is a genre of instrumental music found across many eras and styles, from Bach’s keyboard French and English Suites to Béla Bartók’s Dance Suite for orchestra to Leonard Bernstein’s Dance Suite for brass quintet. Uneasy Dances is mostly inspired by the works of Leonard Bernstein, where I found that, in spite of the title, some dances are not meant to be easily danced to. The composition is in four movements, exploring several different grooves and meters throughout and depicting physical movement forward, however uneasy it may be.
